Purchased from it’s original owners in November of 2006, the Beatle Bar has undergone some spectacular renovations. Beautiful furnishings, an air-conditioned interior, elegant lighting, and a new back bar with plenty of table seating are just a few of the upgrades recently completed. The essence of the Beatle Bar still remains the same, we simply made it cleaner and classier for your enjoyment.

Open 7 Days a week from 6:00pm – 2:30am

Partying at one of Jaco’s many nightclubs is a must for someone staying in the town. There are many places, but some are more popular than others. The Monkey Bar is a neat place sporting big screen TV’s on the walls playing surf videos while the dj spins everything from latin club music to 50cent. Many good lookin’ ladies here and a big dance floor and also you can get good food and tropical drinks. Now we are not stating that all trips revolve around excellent cuisine but it sure helps. Fresh seafood is always available including shrimp, many types of fish, squid, clams, scalops, and more. If you have not had a cold beer with a serving of Ceviche (raw fish or shrimp in lime juice) on a hot day then you just have not truely experienced some of Costa Rica’s finest bocas (snacks or h’orderves).

Closed for renovation!Costa Rica’s Jaco Beach Monkey Bar Re-opening With a New Look & Feel

A group of investors which includes Roz Stevens, who has been residing in Jaco and San Jose for the last 5 years, are bringing the Monkey Bar back but Funkier than ever. The Funky Monkey should be opening sometime in late September or early October!

We have done a lot of renovations that you must come see for yourself…..its still a little like the old Monkey Bar but very much new and improved! We are also renovating the bar in the back to a very nice VIP ROOM with new TV’s, couches, new bar and tons more…again you have to come see it for yourself!

Our music format on the weekends will be a mix of American Dance hip hop and electronic….with a few Latin songs mixed in as well! We are also doing a new food concept of American Barbeque….which will great. Most dishes will be available for around $8 including a drink. We will also be doing 2 for 1 cocktails all day Sunday and everyday from 9 pm to 10 pm. So come and watch sports and get great deals on drinks every Sunday day and night!! Look for our new website coming soon that will feature all of daily specials.

Costa Rica’s fantastic weather is just one of the factors that makes it such a stellar place to visit.
The wet season generally runs from May until October with April and November being months of transition.
Costa Rica is gearing up for their first ever world-wide sporting event. From July 31 – August 9, the next ISA World Surfing Games Billabong will be held in Playa Hermosa, near the tourist city of Jaco.

35 countries have confirmed their attendance so far, which will make this competition the biggest in the world. With eight surfers per team, that makes 280 of the best surfers in the world gathering in Costa Rica. In other words, this event should be spectacular!

“All of Costa Rica is pretty excited,” stated José Ureña, president of the Costa Rica Surfing Federation. “This is the first time we’ve ever hosted a world games of any sort. In fact, this is the first time any sporting world event has ever been held in Central America!”

The organizers report plenty of hotel space for competitors and spectators alike. In fact, the entire area has geared up to make life as easy as possible for the thousands of people who will be descending upon the city soon.

Given the fact that this is a first for Costa Rica, there are a lot of expectations. Hopefully Jaco and Playa Hermosa will be able to live up to them!

Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio National Park

With the establishment of ManuelAntonio National Park in 1972, the people of Costa Rica decided to preserve, for future generations, one of the most beautiful and bio-diverse areas in the world. Although it is the country’s smallest national park, the stunning beauty and diversity of wildlife in its 683 hectares is unequaled.

Manuel Antonio contains a charming combination of rain forest, beaches and coral reefs. This beaches are the most beautiful in the country, lined with lush forest, and the snorkeling is excellent too. The forest is home for sloths, iguanas, the rare and adorable squirrel monkeys and millions of colorful little crabs. And the trail that winds around Punta Catedral affords some spectacular views. The park is easy to reach, south of the town of Quepos, and is near a good selection of hotels and restaurants.

Visiting the park, one is treated to an abundant diversity of wildlife. Cathedral Point, with its forest topped cliffs was once an island, but is now connected to the coast by a thin strip of island. This land bridge now forms the spine separating the parks two most popular beaches, Playa Espadilla Sur and Playa Manuel Antonio.
The southern facing beach, Playa Manuel Antonio, is a picturesque half mile long, white sand crescent bisecting deep green foliage to one side and a private, secluded cove to the other.

Standing with your feet dug into the sand and watching the wave crash against the rocks on either side of the lagoon, it is easy to believe that you are a thousand miles from anywhere.

Getting there
Travel to the area is easy and can be done in a number of different ways. Regularly scheduled air service is available through Sansa Airlines, the flight takes 20 minutes. It is a three and a half hour or more, drive by car from San José depending on the weather and traffic.

If you are renting a car it is advisable to rent a 4X4 vehible because certain sections of the road can be difficult.

The Manuel Antonio National Park entrance fee is US$10 per person. Children under 12 free. Hours: 7am. to 4pm. Closed on Monday.

Quepos/Manuel Antonio, the little slice of paradise for all interests and pocket-books.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Carara is located in the transitional area between the dry and moist forests of the Pacific Region. It can be said that no other wildlife area in the country protects the resources of plants and animals present in that bioclimatic region.

This wildlife area is considered an excellent living laboratory, where it’s possible to study the structure and function of tropical ecosystems and the relationship among them. The mean annual temperature is 27° C.

LOCATION

The Park is located 90 km from the capital city, following the coastal south road and the center of the banks of River Grande de Tárcoles. The time it takes from San José is approximately two hours and is a part of the Central Pacific Conservation Area.

ACCESS

San José – Orotina, 25 km by the road to Jacó

MAIN ATTRACTIONS

In Carara we distinguish three life zones: the tropical moist forest transition to pre-moist, the tropical very moist forest transition to moist and the very moist pre-montane forest.

Among the most outstanding fauna can be found the peccary, ocelot, white-faced monkeys, and macaws. Some of the animal species cited before are in danger of extinction or have reduced populations. This Park counts with numerous remnants of pre-Columbian indigenous occupations, that to this date are not open to the public.

Once on board the 71-foot Catamaran Manta Raya, you will cruise past some of the 23 islands in the calm waters of the Gulf of Nicoya, where you can see porpoise, dolphins, sea turtles and aquatic birds. Calypso Catamaran Cruise offers two tour destinations daily: either the private reserve of Punta Coral, nestled in some of the world’s last remaining Tropical Dry Forest and home for many species of wildlife including yellow napped parrots, and howler monkeys; or Costa Rica’s famous palm studded, white sand beach Isla Tortuga (Tortuga Island). Once at your destination, enjoy the activities that include: sunbathing, volleyball, kayaks, bird watching or relax in a hammock. A wonderful gourmet meal is elegantly served accompanied with chilled white wine and live music.

Waterfalls Canopy Tour is located just outside Jaco and at only 10 km from the Carara Biological Reserve and is part of an important ecological transition zone between Costa Rica ’s drier northwest and more humid south.

Much of the Canopy’s 46 hectares of protected area is covered with transitional rainforest growing on steep slopes, and studded massive trees laden with vines and epiphytes.

Our Canopy Tour consists of 13 platforms, 7 cables of different sizes, 3 storey Tree House, Tarzan Swing, a suspension bridge and a 90 feet rappel at the end.

The tour starts with putting on your harness, these are professional mountain climbing harnesses. Then we do a short walk in, I will explain you about the area you are in, and the flora and fauna you will encounter on the trails. Since a part of the forest has been used for agroforestry, a wide variety of exotic fruit trees and hardwood trees can be found.

Also throughout the day, the scarlet macaws can be heard and often seen in flight, particularly around dusk! The beautiful giant blue Morpho butterfly frequents open spots in the forest and is often found near our waterfalls. If we get lucky we may also see the toucans, aracari’s and white-face capuchin monkeys.

We take to the trees near the waterfalls, here you find the first platform with a short slide. From there you will glide with the help of professional climbing gear on a pulley to the first tree (an enormous Ceiba tree with a diameter of 30 feet!).

At all times you are under the constant care of our guides! You will be taking cables from treetop to treetop in this jungle until you get to the Tree house; Jane and Tarzan’s place! This is the highest point of the Canopy Tour, you’ll be 100 feet over ground level… Here you can hang out for a while to enjoy the scenery. The tree house offers a great opportunity to do some bird watching. Go on and try to spot some of the colorful birds present! More cables will follow until you reach a suspension bridge and the Tarzan Swing! Let’s do a yelling contest!

The Tarzan Swing is followed by our longest cable for the truly adventurous (optional cable)! At the end we will rappel you down (belay, this is a professional lowering technique) to the forest floor.

Duration of the Waterfalls Canopy Tour: approx. 2 hours

From Jaco, driving north towards San Jose, pass by Jaco. You will see just outside Jaco a small mall at your left called F&M, just pass by it and cross the bridge over the Las Monas River. Right after the bridge take a right turn towards Pueblo Nuevo, this road is a dirt road, we are located at the end of this little village approx. at 2 km from this intersection.
Approximate driving time is 10 minutes.

at Turu Ba Ri Nature and Adventure Park:

At TuruBaRi’s Zip lines Canopy Tour; experienced Guides will start by dressing you with the best equipment available in the market (PETZL?) then, they will give you a brief of security and safety, before taking you through this 4.910 feet long tour, spread out over 7 lines (cables), 3 hanging bridges, 12 platforms and 1 tower. It lasts approximately one hour.

In Turu Ba Ri Nature and Adventure Park there is also another Zip Line Canopy tour called; Pure Adrenaline Canopy Tour, where visitors have included the highest Tarzan’s Swing available in the Costa Rica. The tour finishes inside the Park after running the last cable, which measures 2.135 feet long. After this you are invited to aboard the Arial Tram in order to go back to Los Mangos Restaurant, same point you stared.

Glad to report good news from La Paz Waterfall Gardens that they have recovered from all the earthquake damage and have re-opened for business.

See their notice below taken from the La Paz Waterfall Gardens website:

La Paz Waterfall Gardens to Open June 13, 2009 and
The Peace Lodge to Open July 1, 2009

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind and generous support during and after the tragic Cinchona Earthquake that occurred o n January 8, 2009. The first two months after the quake were extremely challenging given the heavy rains and the lack of road access, electricity and water. However, we are now in high gear finishing up the repairs and a series of renovations that will functionally improve as well as beautify the property. Our dedicated service personnel, including the women, have joined our construction crews to help expedite the progress. Through this natural disaster we have become an even closer knit family as we focus on our goal of re-opening an improved property.

After a number of meetings with the supervisor of the road reconstruction and the electricity, telephone and water companies, we feel comfortable that all services will be restored allowing us to open for business in the park on June 13, 2009 and at the Peace Lodge on July 1, 2009.

Changes at La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park

When we open the park we will still be working on some elements of the property. Traffic flow on the trails will be altered to e nter and return from Bernardo’s Trail and it will have a circuit that does not yet connect to the gift shop and bus pick up area. Work on the reconnection will commence in the next few months. Visitors to the trails will be able to view Templo Waterfall and Magia Blanca Waterfall, but they will have to ascend on foot back up to the park. All of the animal exhibits except the Trout Lake will be open, and we are adding a new sloth and a new kinkajou exhibit. All visitors to the park will now have access to the Jungle Cats for no additional charge.

Changes at Peace Lodge

Our heartfelt thanks go out to our previous guests, agencies and friends who contacted us to express their concern and support after the earthquake. It means the world to us to know how much you care.

When we open the hotel there will be a few temporary operating adjustments while we finish our improvements. We are expanding our kitchen and Vista Poas dining area to include a new lounge, a billiards room and private dining area. Therefore, we will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in Colibries Restaurant down in the park for a few months until we re-open Vista Poas. We are adding space heaters to make sure our guests stay comfortably warm during dinner and we will be providing golf cart transport upon request. The Big Trout Bar will probably be open for lunch and dinner sometime in late July after repairs on the lower lake are completed as another dining option.

Please note that there will still be some construction on the property through the fall. We will do our best to minimize any negative impacts to the guest’s experience.

“Better than Before”

Everyone working at the property knows our new motto is “Better than Before”. We have planned every aspect of our repairs and renovations on the property to improve the customer’s experience. After eight years of operation we had a list of areas we wanted to improve either aesthetically or functionally and we have used this opportunity to do just that. The ownership and staff at La Paz Waterfall Gardens and the Peace Lodge sincerely look forward to serving you again and showing you what we have accomplished.

Sincerely,

Lee and Cindy Banks and Staff
Owners, Peace Lodge, La Paz Waterfall Gardens & The Springs Resort & Spa
