Glad to report good news from La Paz Waterfall Gardens that they have recovered from all the earthquake damage and have re-opened for business.
See their notice below taken from the La Paz Waterfall Gardens website:
La Paz Waterfall Gardens to Open June 13, 2009 and
The Peace Lodge to Open July 1, 2009
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind and generous support during and after the tragic Cinchona Earthquake that occurred o n January 8, 2009. The first two months after the quake were extremely challenging given the heavy rains and the lack of road access, electricity and water. However, we are now in high gear finishing up the repairs and a series of renovations that will functionally improve as well as beautify the property. Our dedicated service personnel, including the women, have joined our construction crews to help expedite the progress. Through this natural disaster we have become an even closer knit family as we focus on our goal of re-opening an improved property.
After a number of meetings with the supervisor of the road reconstruction and the electricity, telephone and water companies, we feel comfortable that all services will be restored allowing us to open for business in the park on June 13, 2009 and at the Peace Lodge on July 1, 2009.
Changes at La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park
When we open the park we will still be working on some elements of the property. Traffic flow on the trails will be altered to e nter and return from Bernardo’s Trail and it will have a circuit that does not yet connect to the gift shop and bus pick up area. Work on the reconnection will commence in the next few months. Visitors to the trails will be able to view Templo Waterfall and Magia Blanca Waterfall, but they will have to ascend on foot back up to the park. All of the animal exhibits except the Trout Lake will be open, and we are adding a new sloth and a new kinkajou exhibit. All visitors to the park will now have access to the Jungle Cats for no additional charge.
Changes at Peace Lodge
Our heartfelt thanks go out to our previous guests, agencies and friends who contacted us to express their concern and support after the earthquake. It means the world to us to know how much you care.
When we open the hotel there will be a few temporary operating adjustments while we finish our improvements. We are expanding our kitchen and Vista Poas dining area to include a new lounge, a billiards room and private dining area. Therefore, we will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in Colibries Restaurant down in the park for a few months until we re-open Vista Poas. We are adding space heaters to make sure our guests stay comfortably warm during dinner and we will be providing golf cart transport upon request. The Big Trout Bar will probably be open for lunch and dinner sometime in late July after repairs on the lower lake are completed as another dining option.
Please note that there will still be some construction on the property through the fall. We will do our best to minimize any negative impacts to the guest’s experience.
“Better than Before”
Everyone working at the property knows our new motto is “Better than Before”. We have planned every aspect of our repairs and renovations on the property to improve the customer’s experience. After eight years of operation we had a list of areas we wanted to improve either aesthetically or functionally and we have used this opportunity to do just that. The ownership and staff at La Paz Waterfall Gardens and the Peace Lodge sincerely look forward to serving you again and showing you what we have accomplished.
Sincerely,
Lee and Cindy Banks and Staff
